Why Wellspring as a name?
The core group that have led the community to be formed were struck by the need to focus on health, freshness and wellbeing as well as the sense of a well being a source. We were also struck by a number of quotes that underlined this from the book of Proverbs in the Hebrew Scriptures in the Bible:
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.”
“Understanding is a wellspring of life to those that have it: but the instruction of fools is folly. ”
“The words of a person’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook. ”
We as a community were struck by the underground rivers in the area - the river Peck and the Camber, with a well. Also the borders of the Parish of St Luke’s were set on the northern and eastern side by the previous Surrey Canal that no longer exists and is now a green public walkway.
